This easy tutorial will show you how to make simple DIY earrings with big impact! To create these, we'll basically be making loops on each end of the beads in order to attach them. By using loops, vs. stringing them all on a single pin, we add drama and a very feminine dangle to these beautiful earrings. I recommend using beads of similar shades (i.e. light green, olive and hunter green) to increase the piece's versatility. The stones featured here are mountain jade beads.

User Level: Easy to Intermediate
Materials:
2 head pins
2 eye pins
4 small glass beads, any color
2 medium (6mm-8mm) jade beads, circular
1 pair of earring wires and backings
1 pair of needle nose pliers
1 pair of round nose pliers
1 pair of wire cutters
2 small jump rings

Notes:
I order my 'hard to find for a good price' beads from Farmerjerry64, a powerseller on ebay. They are highly reliable, friendly and very, very fast.

To reduce waste, I use longer head and eye pins. I use the excess to create eye pins and string smaller beads. Please check out the TIP guide to find out how to do this and save money.

Part 1: Planning

This one requires a small amount of thought. Pick your bead colors, shapes and sizes. Find an arrangement that works best for the earrings' intended use. I recommend keeping all of the small glass beads (the accent beads) a. the same size and b. noticeably smaller than jade beads (center bead). Once you've chosen your arrangement, we can begin.

Part 2: Making Individual Charms

Each bead will be on its own until we join them in a later step. We'll start with the first bead. This will be one of the accent beads and will be strung first on the earring. Thread the eye pin through the center hole of the bead. Clip the eye pin so that 1/2" remains visible from the top of the bead. You should have one end with a loop and the other end sticking straight up.

Using the round nose pliers, position the straight edge of the eye pin in between the jaws (left). Center the pin so that the circumference of the hole will be the same as the other side.
Grasp the pin and begin bending it over the bottom jaw of the pliers. It will form a circle. Bend the unopened end back to a form a right angle.
Bend it forward again to close the hole.
Repeat this with the two center beads and ONE other accent bead.
Repeat this with the remaining to accent beads with one EXCEPTION: string one of the two accent beads on a head pin and create the loop on the other side. Do the same with the final accent bead.

Part 3: Coming together

Separate the charms into two piles, one to the left and one to the right. This way, you won't accidentally include pieces you don't want. The first accent bead will be attached to the top of the large focal bead. This first one should have TWO loops. Slide the open end of loop one into loop two. When the charms are together, close the loops by inserting the round nose pliers and gently rolling it inwards. Be careful as too much pressure can cause glass beads to shatter or crack. The second accent bead will be attached to the bottom of the focal bead. This second accent bead should have ONE loop and a flat bottom. Insert the open end of loop one into loop two, just like you did with the first. Close securely.

To attach the earrings to the hooks use a small jump ring.

*Note: Jump rings should not be pulled apart. Instead, the ends should be bent in opposite directions to open and close.
